In total, 168 individuals are being treated in hospital due to symptomatic COVID-19

As of the morning of 21 April, hospital treatment is being provided to 168 individuals who have been infected with COVID-19. A total of sixty-eight patients who have COVID-19 are currently receiving hospital treatment after having developed severe symptoms, including forty-four patients or 64.7% of the overall figure who have not been vaccinated, and twenty-four patients or 35.3% who have been fully vaccinated.

The average hospitalisation rate for the last seven days for every 100,000 members of the country’s vaccinated population is 0.5 people a day, while for the unvaccinated population the figure is 1.6.

Thirty-one new COVID-19 cases have been opened by hospitals within the past 24 hours; in eight of those cases, the patients required hospitalisation due to symptomatic COVID-19. On average within the past seven days, 7.0 new patients each day who exhibit signs of symptomatic COVID-19 infection have been hospitalised. Two deaths have been added of individuals who were infected by COVID-19, involving a 49 year-old man and a 92 year-old man. One of those individuals had not been vaccinated.

The last 24 hours have also seen 4,002 tests being analysed in Estonia in relation to coronavirus, of which the results of 803 were positive. The average infection rate in the last seven days for every 100,000 members of the country’s vaccinated population is thirty, and for the unvaccinated population the figure is thirty-six.

A total of 372 vaccine doses have been administered over the past 24 hours, with fifty-eight individuals receiving their first injections. As of this morning, 450,894 individuals had received their additional or booster doses. Of the total population in Estonia, 63.5% have received two vaccine doses.

Ten new influenza cases and 2,224 COVID-19 cases were added this week

In week 46, a grand total of 3,875 people fell ill with acute respiratory infections. Overall, 43% of all of the new cases involved children. Ten new influenza A cases were confirmed through laboratory tests, including nine influenza A cases and one influenza B case. A total of 2,224 new COVID-19 cases were added, of which 491 were confirmed through laboratory testing.

In week 45, a grand total of 3,305 people fell ill with acute respiratory infections. Overall, 38% of all of the new cases involved children. Nine new influenza A cases were confirmed through laboratory tests, including eight influenza A cases and one influenza B case. A total of 2,191 new COVID-19 cases were added, of which 490 were confirmed through laboratory testing.
